Music
Music plays a pivotal role in our worship and there are several groups who regularly deliver musical offerings within our service settings, and all open to new members. If you want to join in please contact us here.
The Choir
… is a long established group, affiliated to the RSCM, whose aim is "to lead, enrich and enhance the worship at Holy Cross through music”. They regularly sing at Sung Eucharist and Evensong and at additional services throughout the year, such as baptisms, weddings and funerals. The choir also occasionally gives concerts and leads worship away from home, sometimes in cathedrals, including Canterbury. We sing a wide range of music from the 12th to 21st century, including compositions by choir members.
Many of the current 25 singers – soprano, alto, tenor and bass - and organists, have been in the choir since they were seven, although new members of any age are always welcome. Practices are on Fridays from 19.30 to 21.00.
Holy Cross Singers
... are a group which consists of members of the congregation who lead singing at some of the less formal services, some baptisms or when the choir is away.
Contemporary Music
A variety of different musicians lead a more informal contemporary style of worship, particularly at New Way services. New members always welcome.
Organ Music
A stalwart of the classic traditional style of music. An extensive renovation of the 1965 organ in 2012 has produced a very fine instrument capable of accompanying a full congregation as well as dealing with both choral and organ repertoire. We have a small band of organists, but new organists are always welcome.
